Principal React Native Engineer (Contract)

Location: Remote first with the ability to travel to Edinburgh for key sessions
Contract length: 3 months (January 5th start)

We're putting together a new squad to deliver the rebuild of a long-standing B2B mobile product used by enterprise customers worldwide. The project is fully approved, well-defined and ready to start.

We’re looking for a Principal React Native Engineer who can pair exceptional hands-on engineering with strong leadership. You’ll help guide teams, support delivery planning and work closely with key stakeholders.

This role sits above three delivery squads and will be central to maintaining engineering quality, interpreting requirements and driving overall development velocity.

It’s an excellent fit for someone with a deep background in building production-grade React Native applications, experience leading teams or technical workstreams and a comfort level switching between leadership and hands-on coding.

What you'll be working on

• Leading technical direction for multiple engineering squads working on a complete rebuild of an established B2B mobile application
• Collaborating closely with business analysts to interpret requirements and turn them into clear engineering plans
• Supporting squads day to day, unblocking technical issues, guiding architectural decisions, and ensuring alignment with the project goals
• Writing high-quality React Native code as part of the delivery effort.
• Representing the engineering function in discussions with internal and external stakeholders
• Helping shape an AI-first engineering environment with modern tooling, processes, and development practices

  
  

What we're looking for 

• Deep expertise in React Native applied to complex, production-grade applications.
• Experience operating at the Principal Engineer or Consultant Engineer level
• A background that shows both hands-on excellence and broader technical leadership
• Experience leading or guiding engineering teams, mentoring developers and owning technical outcomes
• Strong communication skills and confidence interacting with business analysts, delivery teams and client-facing stakeholders
• Someone who is comfortable being the senior engineering presence across multiple squads and enjoys balancing coding with leadership
