Job description

We are working closely alongside with a local authority in Somerset to assist with the appointment of a Learning Mentor on a 1-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: £239.00 - £325.88 per day

Summary:

As a Learning Mentor for Somerset Council, you will play a pivotal role in championing the educational success and personal development of vulnerable children and young people. Your primary focus will be supporting those in Year 12 and 13 who are Not in Education, Employment, or Training (NEET), as well as pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and those facing wider social vulnerabilities.Operating as a bridge between the local authority, educational settings, and families, you will remove barriers to learning and ensure every pupil has the tools to engage with their education and transition successfully into their next stage of life.

Responsibilities:

  • Support smooth transitions between key stages, different educational settings, or from education into vocational pathways.
  • Operate strictly within local authority policies regarding Child Protection, Health and Safety, and Equality and Diversity.
  • Act as a central point of contact for locality teams, teachers, and education providers to develop cohesive intervention plans.
  • Act as a key decision-maker regarding the allocation of specific funding streams to support individual pupil needs.
  • Ensure pupils are fully informed of the educational and vocational opportunities available within Somerset and beyond.

      Qualifications:

      • A relevant degree or professional qualification in Education, Social Work, Youth Work, or a related field.
      Essentials:
      • Significant experience working with vulnerable young people, specifically those with SEND or those classified as NEET.
      • Experience using complex data management systems to track and report on pupil outcomes.
      • Deep understanding of the barriers faced by pupils in Year 12 and 13 and the post-16 education landscape.
      • Strong knowledge of current safeguarding legislation and Child Protection procedures.

      • You should have right to work in U.K
      • This role requires an Enhanced DBS
