Job description

This is a remote position.

Join our DBA team as a Medior SQL Server DBA supporting L2/L3 operations and change delivery across on‑prem and Azure SQL estates. You’ll execute day‑to‑day administration, contribute to tuning and automation, and ensure secure, compliant operations in alignment with VWID processes and our PAD documentation standards.

What you’ll do

Operations
- Handle L2/L3 incidents P1–P4 during the service window, escalating efficiently and contributing to RCA.
- Perform standard changes (<40h): ad‑hoc backups/restores, DB migrations, upgrades (outside hours by approval), permission management, monitoring/maintenance, disk/instance resizing, and controlled DDL changes.
- Coordinate patching activities and maintain accurate change and PAD records.
- Engineering & Performance
  - Support performance tuning (indexing, Query Store, Extended Events) and capacity planning activities.
  - Execute backup/restore procedures and participate in HA/DR validation and restore testing.
  - Provide proactive recommendations from periodic health checks.
  - Security & Compliance
    - Apply RBAC/least privilege, encryption, credential rotation, and auditing.
    - Align to VWID compliance processes and support SLA reporting evidence.
    - Collaboration & Reporting
      - Work with the VW Service Representative (DBA Product Owner), application owners, and vendors.
      - Keep PAD documentation current; contribute to monthly service & hours reports.
      - Standby
        
        Participate in the P1/P2 rota as defined; resume next window unless pre‑approved continuous work is billable per MSA.
    Tooling & platforms
    
    ServiceNow (ticketing), SQL Server Management Studio, Azure Portal/Azure Monitor/Log Analytics, Windows Server, PowerShell, Performance Monitor, Query Store, Extended Events; version control & change records per PAD.
    What you’ll bring
    - 3+ years as a SQL Server DBA in production environments.
    - Solid T‑SQL, indexing, and query optimization skills.
    - Practical backup/restore experience; familiarity with HA/DR concepts.
    - Basics of capacity planning and performance analysis.
    - Windows OS fundamentals; PowerShell scripting for administration.
    - Comfortable with ITSM processes (ServiceNow) and documentation discipline.
    Nice to have: Always On AGs, replication, SSIS/Agent jobs, Azure Automation, IaC basics (ARM/Bicep/Terraform), Oracle DBA experience, ITIL practices.
    
    Certifications
    
    Microsoft DP‑300 preferred; Oracle OCP (plus); Red Hat/Ansible (plus); ITIL Foundation (plus).
